Busy Now... Busy Later

A Minute with MikeThe phone is ringing off the hook, answering machines are full, and you're ready to chuck your cell phone out the window...it's 'Go Time'.  You're busy now, but are you doing what it takes right now to make sure you are busy later?  Are you making sure you keep up with your estimates?

We all sat through a long winter waiting for this time to come, and thank goodness its hear.  I'm excited about what I'm hearing in regards to the amount of work people have. I'm hearing everything from a backlog of 2-weeks to 2-months, but I warn everyone: stay on top of those estimates.

Right now it might seem like you got work coming out your ears, and you probably do, but you have to find time to continuing doing estimates.  You're busy now, and you want to be busy later.  I know its hard, and I know you could use 26 hours in the day, but this is what we do.

Personally, I'm thankful for the busy time...it's a whole lot better than the alternative.

Thank you for your business,

-Mike

Get in the Hunt for Great Savings with Irritrol ($200 Gift Card)

In challenging times, we need to find new ways to create revenue.

With increasing focus on water conservation and efficient irrigation practices come opportunities to upgrade new projects or retrofit aging irrigation systems.

The simplest form of water conservation upgrade can be a wireless rain sensor, which saves an average 10% of water use. On the high end of control upgrades are "smart" irrigation controllers that adjust irrigation schedules on a daily basis depending on weather conditions. Studies have shown smart controllers can save up to 30% of water use.  New products are arriving on the market that are more cost effective and user friendly, making smart controllers an easier sell, especially on residential projects.

Replacing existing spray nozzles with rotary nozzles, such as MP Rotators, or incorporating them into a new system design provides greater water savings and drastically increased efficiency. In many cases, rotary nozzles can be successful in improving poorly performing spray systems due to low pressure. Because rotary nozzles require less water to operate, they have the advantage of reducing friction losses in an existing system and improving the operating pressure at the head. Additionally, due to lower water requirements of the nozzles, more area can be irrigated with fewer zones, reducing system costs with fewer valves, smaller controller sizes, less pipe, wire, fittings, and labor.

Implementing these technologies will help your company gain a competitive edge on new projects, increase profitability, and create opportunity to contact past customers with older irrigation systems.

Tip from Ron: Add-ons Boost Customer Satisfaction

RonMany contractors neglect selling options that can provide their customers with a higher level of convenience from an irrigation system.

Just as many cars now come with innovations like air-conditioned seats, navigation systems and run-flat tires, savvy contractors know they can look better than their competitors by offering additional add-ons that customers can choose from.

Manufacturers have developed a number of new items, plus there are a number of "old favorites" that can be offered as upgrades and options.

  • Quick couplers or underground hose enclosures for handwashing of cars, boats and RVs.
  • Drip irrigation lines for watering patio plants and hanging baskets.
  • Self-adjusting "smart timers" that eliminate reprogramming when homeowners are away or busy.
  • Remote controls that allow "instant on" manual operation.
  • Master valves that provide additional peace-of-mind against leaks

Remember, even if you don't sell any options, you stand out as an expert for offering them.   Develop your menu of options and grow customer satisfaction as a result!

Rust and Scale Preventer Formulas from Rid O'Rust

Do your customers have rust stains or scaling on their "hardscape" caused by the sprinkler system?"

Rid O'Rust Formula, offered by the American Hydro Systems division of Pro Products, is the perfect answer for preventing further rust stains or scale build up.

Fed continuously into the irrigation line, the Formula neutralizes the iron and calcium in the water and prevents stains and scaling.

This effective method of treating sprinkler water is far less expensive than installing a filtration system and has a lower operating cost.

Ask your AIS representative about Formula 2000, AHS part number 2666, which lists for only $21.27 a gallon.

Ratcheting riser.   Permits quick and easy alignment of the spray pattern.  Keeps water off pavement.

Heaviest duty spring.   Even stronger than the leading brand for positive retraction every time.

Extra-thick, heavy-duty body cap.   Resists stress cracking and UV degradation that often cause premature failure in other brands.  Stands up to maintenance equipment.

Standard side inlet on 6" and 12" models.   Added installation convenience on tall pop-up versions.
