I'd like to take a minute and talk to you about keeping your focus during tough times.
Times like: When you have three jobs to start on Monday and you don't have enough people or equipment to do it or when you don't have a job to start on Monday. The phone rings off the hook with service or the phone doesn't ring at all. It's too wet so you can't work or the ground is so hard and dry that it tears up your equipment. You've all been through times like these examples. Some how, you've always made it through them.
Today we're all facing new challenges. High fuel prices, down turn in the housing market, shortage of quality workers, and the overall slowing of the economy. Our biggest focus is what's going to be our next challenge.
During these tough times, we have two choices. Wait and see what happens, or become proactive and make something happen. You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring or you can begin today marketing some new services to get the phone ringing. Your focus should constantly be to make things happen, not wait for them to happen.
Each of you have a customer list a mile long. Your customers like you and trust you or they wouldn't be on your list. Many of those people have money to spend, they're just not spending it. They're waiting for you, the person they trust, to offer them another service. How many of your customers do not have a rain shut-off device? Yes, they're still watering even though we've had record rains. How many of your customers have beautiful landscaping because you have been maintaining it for years. Maybe now is the time to highlight it with landscape lighting or add an aqua-basin off their patio or deck. Now might even be the time to completely step out of the box and look at offering Christmas Lighting.
I know many of you still have a lot of work on your work board, however, I also know that your phones aren't ringing like they should. Now is the time to begin planning for the Fall.
