2009...The Year of Uncertainty?

If you listen to the people who allegedly "know everything", 2009 is going to be filled with so much uncertainty it may not even be worth getting out of bed.  In many circles, 2009 has already been written-off, and the focus is on 2010.  The issue I take with this line of thought is two-fold.  1.)  There is still plenty I am certain of for 2009.  2.) Whether the "recovery" of everything might not happen until 2010, we've got 12 months before it comes, and we can't just sit around and wait for it.

To be fair, there is plenty that is uncertain in 2009, but when is that not the case?  We deal with uncertainty everyday, 2009 will be no different.

The big story is the economy.  This affects our industry from the construction side of things, residential and commercial, and consumer confidence in spending money on their current homes or businesses.  Regarding construction, it really comes down to what is happening in your own town.  What is happening nationally doesn't always equate to what is happening locally.

For consumers, the stock market seems to be leveling out; this may give a little peace of mind when it comes to figuring out where they stand financially.  Deciding to invest in one's home or business is easier to do if you feel like you won't lose another 50% of your portfolio in the next few days.  There are still plenty of consumers with money to spend, but we need the purse strings to loosen a bit.

The other bit of uncertainty we will all face in 2009 is the weather.  This factor is bigger than all others.  We can't control the weather; however, we need to be prepared to handle whatever it offers us.  Can the weather be as fickle as it was in 2008?  Of course it can, but I sure hope it is much kinder to us this year.

Enough with 'uncertainty', let's look at what we should all be certain of.  We should be certain of our abilities, decisions, and actions.  What worked last year?  What didn't?  What needs action?  If action is needed, get an action plan in place.  Be certain of what direction you are going, and be certain of your abilities to navigate whatever comes your way.

I am certain that myself, and the entire REAMS Team, is committed to the success of our customer in 2009.  I am certain that REAMS will continue to provide the products and services our customers need, as well as some new offerings in 2009 to continue keeping our customer on top.

I am certain that our customers have the ability to be successful in 2009.  Whatever uncertainties we may face, I am certain we will be there for our customer to see through.

There are many things we cannot control, but never lose sight of what you can control.  We will all face the "uncertainty" of 2009 together, whatever the year brings.  Don't lose faith, 2009 may be the best year ever.  Don't think so?  Well  you never know.  I am certain of that....Bryce

REAMS Open Houses

REAMS will be hosting Open Houses at our Kansas City and Omaha locations January 28th and 29th respectively.  This is an excellent opportunity for our customers to interact with one another and visit with the REAMS Staff and our manufacturer representatives.

The Open Houses will be from 2p.m. until 6p.m.  There will be a trade show at each location along with drawings, special buys, appetizers, and refreshments.

You can also look at the new layout of each location.  This a more customer friendly layout that gives our customers a chance to see all of the different products and product lines that we carry.  This new layout truly makes REAMS the "Contractors Warehouse".

We will also be doing regional meetings/open houses at our Sioux City and Grand Island locations on February 19th and 24th respectively.

For more information, please contact your local REAMS Representative.  Hope to see you there!!!

Product Spotlight:  Aquascape Launches New Rainwater Harvesting System "The RainXchange"

At the Irrigation Show, Aquascape debuted its new RainXchange™ System for capturing, filtering, and re-using rainwater.  The RainXchange™ System combines a recirculating decorative water feature with a sub-surface rainwater harvest storage system.
Where traditional methods of harvesting rainwater like rain barrels do not add beauty or value to a landscape, Aquascape created a filtration system used in conjunction with a decorative water feature that captures, filters and houses rainwater run-off for future use.

When used in conjunction with Aquascape's AquaBlox® Matrix®, the RainXchange™ System can earn up to 12 LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credit points, making it an ideal residential and commercial application for managing stormwater in green building projects.  The RainXchange™ Specification Calculator makes it easy to estimate a properly sized system and Aquascape's technical services department is available to assist with projects as needed.
